Introduction to the conspiracies

Was Princess Diana's death a tragedy or a setup? Princess Diana was a charitable and kind woman, fresh out of a divorce from King Charles III of England. On the night of the accident, August 31st, 1997, Princess Diana was in a black Mercedes. Her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, Bodyguard Trever Rees-Jones, and driver Henri Paul also accompanied her in the vehicle. The car tragically crashed in the Paris tunnel. A couple of conspiracy theories about Princess Diana’s death.

   1. Was Paul Henri, the driver, in on her death?

   2. Did the Royal family set up the car accident, due to who her partner was?

Princess Diana's death has multiple conspiracies to explore.

Who Is Princess Diana? How did she leave her mark in this world?

Diana, Princess of Wales, was the ex-wife of Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, and the couple shared two children, William and Harry. Diana was internationally loved and lauded for her charitable acts, renown, beauty, and devotion to her children. She became known as “the People’s Princess” as her popularity rose (How Diana became known as the People's Princess). In contrast to the accepted norm of British royalty, Diana was outgoing and approachable to the “regular” citizen. She became a fashionista and set trends with her flair and wardrobes. Princess Diana spoke out regularly about her mental health issues, spreading awareness. “She heavily advocated for those suffering from poverty and mental health issues”(Princess Diana honored for philanthropic achievement on the 25th anniversary of her death). People connected with Diana on many levels, and it became apparent she also tried to communicate with them because she cared.

When Diana was the Princess of Wales, she changed royal history, set precedents, and disparaged royal protocols. Her actions showed that her royal obligations came second to her children. She was a mother first and the Princess of Wales second. “My mother cherished those moments of privacy and being able to be that mother, rather than the Princess of Wales.”(Prince William, Duke of Cambridge) Traditionally, royal children were tended to by nannies for long periods while royal duties were fulfilled. In direct opposition to tradition, Diana took her children on long tours, rode on public transportation, went to McDonald’s, waited in lines, visited hospitals and homeless shelters, and even attended public schools. She did these things to give her children as normal of a life as possible. Princess Diana made sure to lead by example for her children, and, to this day, her example is “The best mum in the world.” “She would smother us with love”(Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex).

Being involved with over 100 charities is a shining example of how big Princess Diana’s heart was for people.“Over her lifetime, Princess Diana was financially connected to more than 100 charities.” (Princess Diana honored for philanthropic achievements on the 25th anniversary of her death). After her passing, one charity dedicated an award in her honor, “The Diana Award.”(Princess Diana honored for philanthropic achievement on the 25th anniversary of her death). Princess Diana served as a patron of the National AIDS Trust and worked tirelessly to end HIV and AIDS stigma; “Princess Diana shook the hand of a man suffering with the illness. She did so without gloves, publicly challenging the notion that HIV/AIDS was passed from person to person by touch” (How the Princess changed attitudes towards aids). It was apparent Princess Diana cared a lot about people and trying to help. “I never realized quite how much of an impact she had. You can feel and see when she's talking and visiting that she connects and cares about what she's doing.”(Prince William, Duke of Cambridge) Princess Diana’s sons have taken over some of the charities and are also patrons of the ones in which she had a larger role.

Conspiracy Theories

This tragedy was a hard one to swallow for the ones who loved their beloved Princess Diana. When the world heard about the “People’s Princess” (How Diana became known as the People's Princess), her fans refused to accept the death was an accident. “While many accepted the official verdict of events, there were others, most notably Dodi’s father Mohamed al-Fayed– the then owner of the London department store Harrods– who believed more sinister forces were at play.”(6 conspiracy theories about the death of Princess Diana debunked). It was made out as a setup, and that's when many conspiracy theories started to transpire about the death of Princess Diana. Two conspiracies raised the most eyebrows. One of the conspiracy theories is Henri Paul, the driver, was in on her death. The second conspiracy theory is that the royal family set up the car accident due to who her partner was.
The first conspiracy theory is that Henri Paul, the driver of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed, caused the accident. The skepticism of Henri Paul not being involved raised red flags when Richard Tomlinson, who was previously an officer in M16, gave information about Henri Paul being on the M16 payroll. People started believing Henri Paul was an “informant for the security service.” (6 conspiracy theories about the death of Princess Diana debunked), known as M16. Suspicion sparked the air even more when it came to Henri Paul secretly working for M16 when they found “Suspicious funds in Henri's bank account” (6 conspiracy theories about the death of Princess Diana debunked). Then, People started believing the driver, Henri Paul, was under the influence while driving due to the “prosecutors office putting out a press release stating Paul was three times over the drink-drive limit” (Diana's driver was drunk hours before the crash). However, many people tried to make stories about Henri being sober that night, and that is what caused the crash. Still, everything kept coming back to M16, leading back to the conspiracy theory that Henri Paul was hired to generate the car crash that led to the death of Princess Diana.
The second conspiracy theory is the royal family set up the car accident due to who her partner was. When it comes to the royal family, it's their way or the highway. Princess Diana always did what she wanted and broke many royal rules. The royal family did not like this, and it led to the divorce of Princess Diana and Prince Philip (A History of Royal Divorces). Princess Diana’s partner, Dodi Fayed, was the biggest royal upset she had ever made, and it cost her own life because Dodi Fayed was an Egyptian Muslim, and even though he came from money, that didn't matter. Dodi had bought a ring and planned to get married. The royals did not approve of Princess Diana's partner and “could not accept that an Egyptian Muslim could eventually be the stepfather of the future king of England” (Did Fayed propose to Princess Diana hours before they died). If Princess Diana dies, that means Prince Philip could get remarried. Paul Burrell, the butler of Princess Diana, says that Princess Diana wrote him a note stating, “I believe that Prince Charles was planning an accident in my car.” “This would allow him to marry”; Princess Diana gave the note to Paul 10 months before her death ( Princess Diana's letter claims Prince Charles was planning an accident in her car just ten months before fatal crash). That's how M16 got involved and put together an “operation to have Diana and Dodi killed” (6 conspiracy theories about the death of Princess Diana debunked). The royals began to involve Dodi's father, who “claimed it was one of the reasons behind the establishment plot to kill the couple” (Did Fayed propose to Princess Diana hours before they died) because of how serious their relationship was going? Princess Diana’s death could've been merely an accidental car crash, but the evidence that has been given proves the royal family could have planned the People’s Princess's death to get her out of the royal family for good.

Conclusion

Princess Diana’s death caused many conspiracy theories. Did Henri Paul, the driver, purposely cause the crash? Or, did the Royal Family set up the car crash because of who he was? We will never honestly know what happened, but the most plausible theory is the Royal Set up the death of Princess Diana trying to get rid of her. Princess Diana left the world tragically, but the impact she made in this world remains here.
